1916 Ridge (Corner of 20th Street) - HOME - SNOW MOBILE/BIKING/HIKING CABIN FOR SALE! This two bedroom home is located in Mass City, an unincorporated community in Greenland Township, Ontonagon County, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Mass City was first settled in 1848 by Noel Johnson, who discovered copper in the area. Johnson later sold the copper deposits to the Mass Mining Company. Mass City was formally organized in 1855 and named for the mass copper mined in the area. The original site of Mass City was abandoned in 1899, when Abram and Nellie Mathews platted the current site. A post office opened in Mass City on June 15, 1899, and Christ P. Anderson was the first postmaster. An underground copper mine consisting of one shaft located near Mass City. The "old" Algomah Mining Compny was organized in 1852 and worked the mine until 1854, when the mine was deemed a failure and closed. The "new" Algomah Mining Company was organized in 1910. In 1914, 12,467 pounds of refined copper was recovered from hand-picked ore. The mine shut down shortly after this point. Today, rockhound can find malachite, azurite, chrysocolla, and other supergene minerals at "Adventure Mountain" which is just north of this home. The mine offers four guided underground tours where you can walk through part or all of the tunnels on the first level or try your hand at rappelling with a rope and harness to the second level of the mine. Also at the Adventure Mine site are miles of free-use hiking and mountain biking trails through the forest by old foundations and early prospect pits or even up to the top of Adventure Bluff. This is one of the most unique and challenging single-track trails in the Midwest! Bill Nicholls OHV - ORV - ATV Trail No. 8 passes by the property. It is part of 350 miles of groomed and marked trails for snowmobiling enthusiasts. The trails pass through some of the most beautiful scenery in the Midwest. The trail system connects with the Upper Peninsula’s 2,500 miles of trails as well as northern Wisconsin’s trail system. Access to Copper Country State Forest Lands is just down the street, for walk-in access to hunting, trapping, and fishing. Black bear, Bobcat, Canada geese, Coyote, Crow, Fisher, Fox, Raccoon, Red fox, Red squirrel, Ruffed grouse, Skunk, Whitetail deer, and Woodchuck find this area home. About 6+ miles away is access to portions of the Ottawa National Forest. This 982,895 acre forest extends from the south shore of Lake Superior down to Wisconsin and the Nicolet National Forest. The area is rich in wildlife viewing opportunities. Topography in this portion is dramatic with breathtaking views of rolling hills dotted with lakes, rivers, and spectacular waterfalls. The one-story home has a Living room, Kitchen/Dining room, two Bedrooms and a 3/4 Bath. A Mud Room/Utility Room provides entrance to the home. The home is located on four nicely kept platted lots located on the corner of Ridge Road and Depot Ridge Road. If you are interested... Continued In Addendum
