Bellaire is one of Michigan's best kept secrets!  Whether it is a day, a week, or the rest of your life, one visit here will soon convince you that it is where you want to be.  Bellaire, Antrim County's seat, is located on M-88 in the central portion of the county in the heart of Antrim County's famed Chain O' Lakes. From its forested hils, to its torquoise pristine lakes, rivers and streams there is much to do during all four seasons of the year.  Whether it is fishing, boating, canoeing, hunting, snowmobiling, or skiing there is something for everyone in Bellaire. This serves as the backdrop for all the residents providing a marvelous quality of life.  

                       

A small town with a Victorian flaire displayed vividly by many of the homes along main street. Unique shops also line the main thoroughfare of Bridge St. (M-88) as well as Short's a well-known microbrewery, LuLus a gourmet restaurant, and many other fine dining establishments.  Shopping, dining, parks, movie theatre a days activities all contained within the village.  

 

                                         

HISTORY

Once the seat of the area's industry and a major railroad center during the lumbering era of the late 1800's Bellaire was organized under the name Keno in 1879 and changed to Bellaire on May 26, 1880.  The ease of transportation and local forestry materials led to industry and population expansion.

AREA ATTRACTIONS

Like most of the surrounding villages, Bellaire is busiest during the summer months, when tourists & seasonal residents flock to the area to enjoy the beautiful clean waters of the Chain O' Lakes which includes 17 mile long Torch Lake, one of the country's cleanest and most beautiful bodies of water that has been publicized as the 3rd most beautiful Lake in the world.  The blue ribbon Cedar River and Craven Pond where the village operates a public campground and park,  offers wonderful fishing opportunities for several species of trout, as well as picnic areas and hiking trails. Public hunting in the adjacent Cedar River Natural Area is also available.  Richardi Park is our local public park and offers swimming, a pavilion for events, playground for little ones, basketball court, picnic areas walking trails and beautiful natural vistas for all that visit.

                  

A number of events are held in the area during the summer months, the most popular is the Annual Rubber Ducky Race, when thousands of rubber ducks float down the Intermediate River in a race to raise funds for our Chamber. 

                                

Nationally known Shanty Creek offers world class golfing, as well as winter downhill skiing and tubing and top notch year round dining and lodging accommodations.

          

GRASS RIVER NATURAL AREA

Grass River Natural Area: is a 1,165 acre preserve comprised of wetlands and wildlife habitat. Miles of trails provide for enjoyable walking, bird watching, and wildflower identification. The Non Profit GRNA offers over a hundred hikes and classes year round but most importantly insures land protection and education for the future.

Located in the heart of Northern Michigan splendor.  Sparkling lakes, award winning golf and the pristine beauty of the area makes for a marvelous quality of life .
