Torch lake ranks first in water volume and second in size among Michigan's inland lakes. Here are some of the facts:

Shoreline 40.8 miles

Depth 330 ft.               Maximum width of 2.35           Surface area 18,770 acres

Legend tells us her name came from the Algonquins, whose pinpitch torches appeared to set the lake on fire while they spearfished at night.

It is home of the annual Torch Lake Regatta, a sailboat race held each summer.                                        

Accessible by boat from Torch Lake is Clam Lake, Lake Bellaire, Lake Skegemog and Elk Lake.  Approximately 70 miles of boating with lift out into Lake Michigan at Elk Rapids.
