Caroline Smith - Combining hard work with unparalleled resources to get outstanding results for you.

My name is Caroline Smith and I am a Realtor for Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors. I was born and raised in Traverse City and I am passionate about this beautiful area and all it has to offer. I truly love helping people buy and sell real estate here. My upbringing, family heritage, educational background and professional experience have provided me with a set of skills and resources that are unmatched by any other Realtor in the area:

1. My upbringing: I was born and raised in Traverse City, attended Traverse City public schools, and am constantly exploring all that this area has to offer. I live/breath all things related to northern Michigan. I know the area inside and out. I know what the pros and cons of living in each different area are (from Slabtown to Holiday Hills to the tip of the Old Mission Peninsula), and can share that knowledge with my clients to help them find the best fit in terms of a home.

2. Family heritage: I am a fifth generation Schmidt realtor. My great-great-grandfather, Harold F. Schmidt, founded the Coldwell Banker Schmidt Family of Companies (CBSFOC) in 1927. Today, my grandfather, Ken, is CEO of the firm; my uncle, Mike, is President; and my mother, Shawn is in the top 1% of nearly 800 local realtors. I am lucky to have these hugely successful family members to draw on for advice, mentoring and support.

3. Educational background: I attended the University of Notre Dame where I received a Bachelor of Arts. While at Notre Dame, I developed a strong work ethic while juggling the demands of the challenging classes with my duties in various clubs, activities and jobs (a difficult task indeed, especially during football season!).

4. Professional experience: I spent my summers during college interning for top real estate agents in both Traverse City and Chicago. I learned from the best about everything from how to negotiate successfully to how to create meaningful marketing material. You can read below about my internship with one of Chicago's top realtors.

Taken all together, these four factors have helped launch my real estate career. I possess the knowledge, skills and resources to help my clients succeed, and I am dedicated to working tirelessly on their behalf.

Professional Experience

"Caroline is one of the most gracious, caring, thoughtful people I have ever known... No matter what we threw at her, she was enthusiastic and helpful."

Real Estate Experience, Summary:

  • Obtained Real Estate License in Michigan at 18 years old.
  • Worked at Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors in Traverse City, Michigan for summer of 2013 as assistant to one of the area's top realtors.
  • Interned with Jennifer Ames Chicago for summer of 2014 - top residential real estate agent in Chicago, with over $160 million in closed sales for 2014.

Internship with Jennifer Ames, Summer 2014

In the summer 2014, I had the opportunity to intern for Jennifer Ames - a residential real estate agent working under brokerage Coldwell Banker in Chicago. In 2014 (the time which I was there) Jennifer and her team of 6 brokers and 8 office workers closed over $160 million, making it their best year yet. Jennifer is consistently ranked as Chicago's top residential real estate agent and was ranked #4 among Coldwell Banker Realtors in North American in 2013 and 2014.

I had to opportunity to work on every aspect of the real estate business while working for Jennifer. From meeting with potential clients at the first listing agreement meeting, to staging houses for photosheets, to creating print and online marketing material, to preparing closing documents...I learned what it takes to be a top realtor in a competitive market. Below is a letter of recommendation from Jennifer Ames, written on my behalf.

Personal Interests

My personal interests revolve largely around getting out and enjoying the great outdoors of northern Michigan (I can talk for HOURS about what a great place this is to live, and how many things there are to do!).

My love for the outdoors started when I was very young. When I was 8 months old, my dad would strap me into a baby backpack and wade out into the rivers to fly fish with me strapped on. Fast forward twenty-two years, and I am the proud owner of a hand-crafted, 13 foot fly fishing boat and an avid fly fisher(wo)man.

My dad and me, with my largest brown trout yet.

The kind of commitment I gave and continue to give to my fly fishing hobby is not only a result of my love for the outdoors, but also a result of the kinds of values my parents instilled in me. They taught me time and time again the importance of hard work, whether it be in my hobbies, sports, relationships or academics. They also taught me how to love others and how to laugh often - something there are plenty of opportunities for with my two younger siblings and extended family members.

I also enjoy stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking and yoga. Don't hesitate to give me a call if you want recommendations about fun places to paddle board (West Bay is my go-to spot, especially at sunset) or hike!
