Should I remodel? What improvements will add value to my home and which ones? Maybe we should just sell and buy a "newer to us" home?
As a Realtor, I love these questions and when clients, friends & family members ask my professional advice in this category. I'm not just a listing/selling agent, I'm your local trusted real estate advisor! Plus I watch "Love it or List it" all the time on HGTV :)
Just this week, I had the pleasure of meeting with some acquaintances that ask me to their home to discuss what they should do - sell or remodel? I have to admit, I was pretty flattered and excited because I've always wanted to see inside this historic home. Built in 1880, it was adorned with curved walls, bannister stairway, tall ceilings, original hardwood plank flooring and trim throughout. Plus it's a huge family home! The owners have done an amazing job renovating it over the years but as with any old home, there is still lots to do to make it functional in this day & age. When I left they seemed pleased with our discussion and had a family plan.
So, it got me thinking about remodeling. Little improvements can make a huge difference - add color to the exterior by putting up shutters, painting the front and garage door a complimentary color, change out the exterior light fixtures for new more modern ones. For less than $200, the "curb appeal" which is so pivotal will make a huge improvement.
