Starting Thursday, July 31, thousands will converge in Boyne Falls for its 40th annual Boyne Falls Polish Festival. This year's schedule kicks off with what is known as "locals night" Thursday, July 31, which includes bingo at 4 p.m., the oldies tent and car show at6 p.m. The popular Oldies but Goodies Band will play at the polka tent from 6-12:30 a.m. Then, Friday is Youth Day with games, carnival rides and a bike parade. Saturday starts with a 5k cross-country run at 8 a.m. at the school and the Grand Royale Parade at 11. Sunday features a horseshoe-pitching tournament at 11, and the 4-Wheel Drive Mud Run at noon. New features this year: Mapleleaf Amusements is the new carnival company and will stay open until 10 p.m. Sunday. Also on Sunday, cash prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250 will be given away at the polka tent at 9 p.m. - you must be present to win.

THURSDAY BUS SERVICE - Charlevoix County Transit will again offer free bus service to Oldies Night at the Polish Festival on Thursday, July 31. Dispatchers will accept reservations (231-582-6900) for pick-up until 7 p.m. the day of the event for those wishing to be picked up and returned to their homes or a central meeting point.
