The Birchwood development began in 1972 by Bill Cottrill. The golf course features three 9-hole courses (27 holes of golf,) and a driving range. There are 10 tennis courts, an outdoor heated pool, kids pool, hiking trails, groomed cross-country ski trails, a well equipped fitness center, and 24/7 security patrol.

The Clubhouse underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in the Spring of 2008. It has a formal dining room, grill room, private dining area, casual bar, fitness center, golf pro shop, tennis pro shop, activity rooms, a three-way house for quick meals, and banquet facilities.

If you're planning on building in Birchwood, all sites have natural gas, phone, electricity, cable, and water hook-up available. All utilities run underground. The ACC, or Architectural Control Committee, sets guidelines to ensure that homes built are aesthetically pleasing.

Activities in Birchwood:

Birchwood is Golf - Golf is Birchwood.  Twenty seven holes of finely maintained greens, a driving range, weekly golfing events, and tournaments are held each year including: The Green Coat Event, Silver Birch, Member tournament, Couples, Women's Championship, and Men's Championship.

Dining at the Club is a great way to meet new people, enjoy great food, hold special events, and otherwise enjoy yourself. Food is prepared from scratch using the Chef's personal recipes, and the staff is friendly and energetic.

The tennis facilities at Birchwood have six "hydro-grid subsurface irrigation courts", and four "Deco-Turf II" hard courts. Ball machines and a full service pro shop are also available. Group and private lessons can also be scheduled. The program also features tournaments, mixers and social events for members and guests.

Swimming is popular during the dog days of summer. The outdoor pool is heated.

The fitness center, recently completed, provides a cardio center and strength area.

Cross country ski trails circle throughout Birchwood private grounds in Birchwood, and are groomed after each snowfall.

The Birchwood Women's Association runs a wine tasting group, book club, cooking class, gourmet dinner group, exercise classes, arts and crafts class, a garden club, hosts luncheons and meetings, Christmas cocktail parties, and many more activities.
