City advises to keep water running

Frozen. It's the word of the season in northern Michigan, with another blast of snow and frigid temperatures settling into the area this week. It's also the one word no one wants to hear when it comes to water pipes. Harbor Springs city manager Tom Richards said the Department of Public Works is continuing to ask customers to run a stream of water to prevent connection freezes.

"With the extreme deep frost this season, many more customers than normal are at risk of losing their water supply," Richards said.

Recently, the Harbor Springs Post Office building lost its water due to frozen water service lines. Richards said all buildings that are connected to the Harbor Springs water system are, and will continue to be, at risk for the time being.

"When the risk is over, the City will advise customers through the newspaper, radio, and TV. The city's website is the best place to check to see if the run water advisory has ended," Richards said.

The City of Harbor Springs website is www.cityofharborsprings.com.
