A little known non-profit organization, Northern Homes Community Development Corporation, is helping pave the way towards affordable home ownership through their Homebuyer Purchase Rehabilitation Program. Through the program, qualifying home buyers may receive financial assistance to be used towards the down payment, closing costs, and/or repairs with a conditional ten year forgivable loan. Qualified buyers may receive up to $10,000 for the purchase of the home, and up to $25,000 for repairs.
Northern Homes Community Development Corporation, which has been working to create and preserve affordable housing opportunities in Northern Michigan since 1998, has been focusing on serving the cities of Alanson, Boyne City, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, East Jordan, and Petoskey. In addition to loans, they provide educational workshops and are an approved HUD Counseling Agency with certified MSHDA Housing Counselors.
