If you want to freshen up your home, consider adding an air freshener to your furnace filter. Although you can purchase pre-made fresheners, you can make your own for a fraction of the cost. Replace the air freshener every time you replace your furnace filter to keep your house smelling good.

    Things You'll Need

    • 2-by-2-inch cheesecloth, 2
    • Stapler
    • Small piece of fabric
    • Essential oils
    • Safety pins
    • Dryer sheets

    Instructions

      • 1

Cut two pieces of cheesecloth into 2-by-2-inch squares. Staple the cheesecloth together along the sides and bottom to create a sachet. Leave the top opened so you can fill the bag.

      • 2

Fold a small piece of fabric so that it will fit inside of the bag. Place several drops of your favorite essential oil on the fabric. Put the fabric inside of the bag and staple the top shut.

      • 3

Attach the bag to the metal part of your furnace filter with safety pins.

      • 4

Place two or three clean dryer sheets alongside of your furnace filter for another way to make your own furnace filter air freshener. The dryer sheets will release a fresh smell throughout the home.
