Today is a beautiful day to host a waterfront open house

Today I have the pleasure of hosting an open house at a beautiful  home with 100 ft of private frontage on West Bay over looking Power Island.  This home features 3 beds, 2 baths, fireplace, full basement and new kitchen appliances.

The history of  Power Island (also known as Ford Island or Bassett Island) is located about 7 miles from downtown Traverse City and 2.75 miles from the nearest boat launch at Bowers Harbor on Old Mission Peninsula.  This 202-acre county-owned oasis offers a microcosm of the best the region has to offer: sandy beaches, wooded hikes, rustic camping, and even a touch of history (auto Titan Henry Ford owned the island from 1917-1944).  For experienced open-water kayakers, Power Island makes for a sweet day trip; otherwise renting or chartering a powerboat is the way to go (several local charter boat companies offer transportation to and from the island).  This  video from our local news channel Up North Live, describes the rich history of the island in the days when Ford owned it.  Many friends, dignitaries, celebrities and Presidents frequented the island taking there turn at a night or two stay.  As described in the video, one such friend, Mr. Edison, helped cure the problem of having to square dance in the darkness of night. There is even an interesting story about "The Great Bambino's" short stay on the island.

I love the adventures and rich history this area of Northern Michigan offers to its residents and visitors.  Enjoy your Sunday my friends as I enjoy my beautiful "office" view this afternoon...
