How to Remove Carpeting

How to remove carpeting:

1) Starting with a loose corner, lift the carpeting away from the tack strips. Tack strips will be along all of the edges of the room.

 2) Once carpeting is detached from floor, carefully cut carpeting into two foot strips with a utility knife. Roll them up like a sleeping bag and dispose of them properly.

3) Once the carpeting and pad are gone, remove any staples, glue, or other stray materials. Use a demolition bar to remove the tack strips. If there are wood floors underneath, and they are not too worn, use a wood cleaner or wood restorer.

I was inspired to write these instructions because I just did this over the weekend at my house! The wood floors could use refinishing, but better to have worn wood floors than worn carpeting.
