Personal Background

Mark Ryan Oegema was born and raised in West Michigan.  Originally from the Grand Rapids area attended feeder schools to Grand Rapids Christian High School, Graduated from South Christian High School and then moved on to earn a BBA in Marketing from Grand Valley's Seidman School of Business.  While attending Grand Valley State University, Mark took adavantage of a Study Abroad Program to London where he studied International "Business and British Culture.  During University Mark lived downtown Grand Rapids in a building originally known as the Berkey and Gay Furniture Factory" and now more commonly known as "The Boardwalk" or the loft above "Waterworks Pub".  It was there Mark grew a true appreciation for New Urbanism, city life and redevelopment of the Old to the New.  In addition, to city life Mark has a passion for the Lakeshore and soon after college was drawn to Holland, Michigan.  Mark invested in a loft in the former Baker Furniture building, made a career of selling real estate and when he has time off finds himself traveling, spending time with friends, his Weimaraner named "Woods", hiking, just about anything outside and of course he loves sailing.

Community Involvement

Mark believes that plugging yourself into the community that you live in is vital to your personal and professioanal success.  Therefore Mark Oegema has chosen to be active with the Holland Chamber of Commerce.  The Holland Chamber is a great source for being involved.  In addition, to all of the network opportunites there are several recommended educational courses offered such as Healing Institute of Racsism, Holland First and Leadership Holland.  I have completed Healing Institute of Racism and am just a few weeks shy of graduation from Holland First.  I plan to submerge myself in Leadership Holland next session.  I have also helped out with the Columbia Art District, Holland Art Council, and I am a very active member with the Holland Young Professionals.
