GRAND RAPIDS IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE!

 

There's no time like the present to live in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  I chose this wonderful town in 1986 because it was large enough to have everything for a good life and small enough to get where I wanted to go quickly and easily.  And, the economic forecast was positively inviting!!!!!!!!!

Today, Grand Rapids is better than ever and ranks high in many many categories for great cities in which to live.  There are better jobs, better schools, more affordable housing.  Even today (2008) 12% of our jobs are in manufacturing although the growing fields are in the life sciences, high tech products and services and education. 

The entertainment and restaurant choices have multiplied  over the years and people of all ages are enjoying it more than ever.

Newcomers and long time residents alike enjoy the Calder Downtown, the Meijer Gardens, the Ford, Historical and Art museums, the John Ball Park Zoo.......and we are only half an hour's ride from Lake Michigan.

I LOVE MICHIGAN!

 

I'VE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE MIDWEST AND I'VE ALWAYS LIVED WITHING MINUTES OF LARGE BODIES OF WATER.  I GREW UP IN THE DETROIT AREA, RAISED A FAMILY IN CALUMET, MICHIGAN IN THE UPPER PENINULA, LIVED FOR A SHORT STINT IN WAUKESHA, WISCONSIN AND RELOCATED TO GRAND RAPIDS IN 1986.

THE UNIVERSITY OF DETROIT/MERCY IS MY ALMA MATER BUT IT WAS KNOWNAS THE UNIVERSITY OF DETROIT THEN.  LATER, I TOOK COURSES AT MICHIGAN TECH IN HOUGHTON.  BOTH SCHOOLS WERE GREAT PLACES TO BE. AN ENGLISH MAJOR IS PREPARED FOR ANYTHING, EVEN A CAREER IN REAL ESTATE.....AFTER A FEW YEARS IN COMMERCIAL AND PUBLIC RADIO.

VACATIONING AND VISITING AROUND THE COUNTRY AND ABROAD IS WONDERFUL AND STIMULATING, BUT IDO LOVE MICHIGAN BEST!

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES!

LIFE IS GOOD!

I LOVE THE FOUR SEASONS!  TO BE OUTDOORS AND EXPERIENCE ALL THAT NATURE HAS TO OFFER IS A CONTINUAL DELIGHT.

EARLY MORNING WALKS,BIKE RIDING IN SEASON, A LITTLE CROSS COUNTRY SKIING IN THE WINTER AND CHRISTMAS ON THE FAMILY FARM ARE ALWAYS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ACTIVITIES TO BE ENJOYED WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

THERE ARE MORE EVENTS OF INTEREST TO GO TO THAN I HAVE HAVE TIME FOR, BUT I DO ENJOY THE SYMPHONY, MANY PLAYS, AND WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL EVENTS.   AND RESTAURANTS....THERE ARE WONDERFUL RESTAURANTS  AROUND THE AREA FEATURING THE CULINARY TREATS FROM NEAR AND FAR. (I EVEN ATTEMP TO DUPLICATE MEALS AT HOME AND TRY THEM OUT ON GUESTS!)

GAMES, CARDS, PUZZLES, BOOKS ALWAYS ENTICE ME AND I'M STUDYING A NEW LANGUAGE!  THEY SAY IT KEEPS THE BRAIN IN GEAR.

GRANDCHILDREN ARE A SOURCE OF CONTINUAL AMAZEMENT! IT IS ALWAYS FASCINATING TO LEARN WHAT THEY ARE THINKING, WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND HOW THEY ARE FIGURING THINGS OUT FOR THEMSELVES.  LUCKILY, I HAVE 6: 3 GIRLS AND 3 BOYS FROM 5-18.

MY MAIN PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS CENTER AROUND HOME OWNERSHIP.  AS A REALTOR, I MAINTAIN MEMBERSHIP IN THE NATIONAL, STATE AND LOCAL ASSOCIATIONS OF REALTORS, AND THE WOMEN'S COUNCIL OF REALTORS.  THESE ORGANIZATIONS OFFER CONTINUAL EDUCATION ON ALL THE TOPICS RELEVANT TO DOING BUSINESS IN TODAY'S ENVIRONMENT.

MY LATEST COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IS ON THE COMMITTEE TO IRRADICATE HOMELESSNESS IN GRAND RAPIDS.  THIS COMMITTEE IS WORKING TO ACCOMPLISH IT'S GOAL IN TEN YEARS.  IT WILL WORK WITH PEOPLE TO HELP THEM SELF SUFFICIENT MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY.

IN ORDER TO KEEP ABREAST WITH INTERNATIONAL TOPICS, I HAVE BEEN A VOLUNTEER FOR MANY YEARS WITH THE WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL ESPECIALLY ON EVENTS WITH INFORMED SPEAKERS FROM MANY WALKS OF LIFE, INCLUDING POLITICS, BUSINESS AND THE MEDIA. THIS INVOLVEMENT HELPS ME BE MUCH MORE UNDERSTANDING OF MY INTERNATIONAL CLIENTS AND THEIR CONCERNS.
