Lake beaches and water levels in Leelanau and Grand Traverse Counties

The water levels are up and beaches are returning to a more natural state in Leelanau and Grand Traverse Counties. In some areas, the low water levels had created pools of water and the exposed lake bottom was sometimes covered in silt. The higher water levels are naturally cleaning those beaches! Plant growth that had established itself in exposed areas is disappearing! The disadvantage is that extended beach areas have been shortened; the advantages of the higher water levels for easier boating and cleaner beaches far outweigh the cons.
