Move Countdown; Keeping your move in check !

FIVE weeks before moving day; Contact your oving company to make arrangements. Remove items from your attic, basement and other hidden storage area's.Start using things you cant move, such as frozen foods, and cleaning supplies.Contact the chamber in your new location for local information.If your employer is helping with the cost of your move, contact them to see what is your responsibility, and which items are theres.Contact the IRS and/or your accountant for information on what could be deductable.

FOUR weeks before; Obtain a change of address kit from your post office. Arrange special transport for the family pets and plants. Contact service companys ( gas, electric, oil, water, telephone, cable t.v. and trash collection to inform them of your move out date and also your move in date to your new home.

Three weeks before; Make travel arrangements and hotel reservations for your moving trip if needed. Dont make plane reservaions for the same day that you're moving. House closings are often delayed and other unexpected situations do often arise.

TWO weeks before; Have your car serviced for the trip.Begin to inventory and evaluate your possessions. What can be sold, donated, or just tossed out. Habitat for humanity will usually come and pick those items up for free! Make a list of everyone you need to notify about your move; freinds, family, doctors, creditors. Locate all auto licensing and registartion documents. Contact schools, dentist, lawyers, and ask for your personal records if you are changing doctors or dentist.

MOVING DAY ! Make sure someone responsible is at the home at all times to answer any questions. Record all utility meter readings. Make specia; arrangements for pets and small children to keep them safe on moving day. Defrost the refrigetrator, and freezer. Organize and set aside the things that you're with you, including personal items that you may need immedediately upon arrival, so they dont get loaded in the moving van. UPON arriaval; Have a floor plan for the movers to make the placement of your furniture a better experience. Driver and crew should assemble all items that had to be dismanteled. Take a note of all of your inventory to check for any damaged items.
