2009 Tax Credit Information

In November 2009, the federal government passed a stimulus bill which included new incentives for first time home buyers. This tax credit was a significant improvement over last year's tax bill. The new bill was also expanded to include those buying a new home which is not their first. Some important details to know are:

  • Homes must close by April 30, 2010
  • Credit is 10% of purchase price, to a max of $8,000
  • First Time Home Buyer means you have not owned a home in the past 3 years.
  • This credit does NOT have to be repaid.
  • Income limits apply ($75,000 single, $150,000 married)
  • Credit expanded to buyers who have owned a home before.
  • If buying a home as a Principal Residence, you may qualify for up to $6500
