How to beat the Marquette, MI winter blues

With the harsh, cold, and long winters we have here in the Upper Peninsula when February comes most of us have just about had enough. If this sounds like you, there are many options here in the Marquette area to get you through these last couple months of winter.

First off, Marquette has many great local establishments to indulge in. Going out on the town for a nice lunch or dinner is a great way to get out of the house/apartment and enjoy what our beautiful city has to offer. A few of my favorite eateries are; Sol Azteca (the new Mexican restaurant downtown), Vangos, The Portside, Aubree's, The Pasta Shop, The Casa, The Villa, Jeffery's, and the list goes on and on. I really enjoy eating out and supporting our local establishments.

Food is not the only way to get through this cold weather. Some other options include; taking in a movie at the brand new Thomas Theatre (check out the VIP theaters), roaming around the Westwood Mall (or any of the wide variety of stores we have here), taking in a high school or college sporting event or local theater production, playing mini golf at UP Sports Plex, and making use of NMU's sports complex: the Superior Dome, PEIF, and Berry Events Center (walk the dome, swim, racquetball, basketball, hockey, etc.).

When the spring weather starts to show it's face, it is really fun to get out and enjoy the snow with the warmer weather! Skiing at Marquette Mountain is quite enjoyable, taking a snowshoe hike up Hogsback Mountain, Sugarloaf Mountain, or the many trails,  or just enjoying a pleasant walk around Presque Isle and taking in the beautiful scenery and wildlife.

So, when you are getting those winter blues, remember the options we have here in our local Marquette area! Enjoy the rest of the winter months we have and let's all look forward to a summer where we can actually swim in Lake Superior.
