Spring Break in Northern Michigan

Spring Break in Northern Michigan sees a quieting of the normal hum of activities in the area. After what sometimes feels like a never-ending winter, many of the residents take this opportunity to go visit locations that are truly experiencing spring, or in some places what feels like summer to us Northerners. A fan of travel myself, as a native, I've got to admit that I love being here during spring break and enjoy the ease in getting around town (it takes 5 minutes to cross town, rather than 10). This is also a good time to catch up on post snow yard and garden clean up, raking away the leaves that dropped after snowfall. Another favorite tradition is The State Theatre who offers free movies during the week which draws many to downtown Traverse City. Although there is still ice on the bay the promise of summer is close at hand as witnessed by this shot of the base of West Grand Traverse Bay where the Boardman River helps push back the icy edge to give us lapping waters once again.  Before we know it the switch will flip and suddenly it will be summer. For now, I’m savoring the moment.
