Scaled down homes

Over the past couple of years I've noticed a need for smaller, no maintenance homes.   A wide age group from the mid twenties first time home buyer to the downsizing middle aged couple, on up to the older single homeowner.  None of these homeowners wants lawn maintenance; they all want 1-2 bedrooms, a full basement and a garage.

Young, first time homeowners want to be able to come home from work, change clothes and be off to the gym, running a recreational trail, or out with their friends.  The middle  and older aged couples have had their share of the large lawns and gardens; they want to be less tied down to their home and are content to have someone else take care of that. Older homeowners while able to live in their own homes may not have the ability or simply prefer not to take care of lawns.

Buyers have voiced that they wish they could find new construction in the 800-1,000 sq. ft. range that would give them a private, stand alone residence.  They do not want a duplex or attached condo, but they demand a basement for storage and an attached garge, and they want to be within walking distance of a village.    So far I haven't seen any developers working on a neighborhood like this, but I did come across some great plans of that home size.  You would still need to hire someone to mow.  Here's a link to a 997 sq. ft. home with a bedroom, den, covered and uncovered patio, kitchen island, basement, 1-1/2 baths, and an attached 2 car garage:
