Canadian Lakes is considered one of Michigan's premier resort communities in Mecosta County. It was once considered a small summer community, but now boasts year round living. Nestled in a beautiful area of woods and lakes, you can enjoy a day at the St. Ives/Tullymore golf courses, resorts, shopping, and top restaurants throughout the area. Located in the heart of Mecosta County, close to Big Rapids, and only a 55 minute drive from Grand Rapids, Canadian Lakes is your summer destination that you decide to call home.
Canadian Lakes is one of the few places in the United States that can boast a castle. The Castle was built in 1971 by the founder of Canadian Lakes, Donald Bollman. The Castle is located atop one of the highest points in the eastern portion of Mecosta County. Its offers spectacular views of Canadian Lakes including the 8th green and 9th tee of the Highlands Golf Course. From there the views extend across a large park that encompasses the tennis courts, and playgrounds located nearby. Then your eye will fall on the beautiful Lake of the Clouds and beyond that the Main Lake. The Castle can be used for many community activities and events.
The community boasts several shopping opportunities, and many more within a short distance. The shopping center located in Canadian Lakes, Country Corners, has a variety of specialty shops as well as a grocery store. Stroll through downtown Big Rapids (only 17 miles), and enjoy all of the specialty shops and wonderful dining the area has to offer. If a larger shopping excursion is in order, Grand Rapids, (55 Miles away) has River Town Crossings and Woodland Mall that offer a wide variety of stores to get all of your shopping needs met in one place.
There are many cultural and educational events held near the area as Canadian Lakes is centrally located to Central Michigan University and Ferris State University. Both Universities also offer an exceptional Athletic Department. For the art and theater buffs join us at Art Works or Stage M both located a short distance in Big Rapids or the many museums that Grand Rapids has to offer.
Enjoy many year round activities throughout the year, from horseback riding at the Outback Lodge, cross country skiing, and golfing at the many area golf courses.
